Nonimmigrant visa suspension in Turkey

*UPDATE* December 28, 2017: the U.S. Department of State issued a Press Release to state that it has allowed “full resumption of visa services in Turkey.”

*UPDATE* November 10, 2017: the U.S. Mission toTurkey has resumed issuing nonimmigrant visas. Visa interviews will take place on a limited basis at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara and at the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul. If a visa applicant’s appointment was cancelled during the visa suspension period, the applicant can go online ( www.usvisa-info.com) to schedule a new appointment. For more information regarding this situation, please see https://tr.usembassy.gov/visas/nonimmigrant-visas/. The Government of Turkey has resumed issuing visas to U.S. citizens to enter Turkey on a limited basis at Turkish consulates in the United States.

On October 8, 2017, the U.S. government immediately suspended all nonimmigrant visa services at all U.S. diplomatic facilities in Turkey, including all Consulates and the U.S. Embassy in Ankara. There is no indication when this suspension might be lifted, so anyone planning to obtain a nonimmigrant U.S. travel visa in Turkey right now (and for the foreseeable future) will need to make other plans. Please note that this is only a suspension of consideration of new nonimmigrant visa applications within Turkey. If someone already has a valid U.S. entry visa stamped in his/her passport, then that person can still travel to the U.S., and people can also apply for a U.S. nonimmigrant visa at other locations outside of Turkey.

In response to this action, the Government of Turkey has suspended visas to U.S. citizens wishing to travel to Turkey, effective immediately. A message regarding this development was posted on website of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara at https://tr.usembassy.gov/message-u-s-citizens-government-turkey-suspension-visas-u-s-citizens-october-8-2017/.
